The high speed rail link from Hong Kong to mainland China opens from September 23rd!

I won tickets to take a sneak peek at the new West Kowloon station in Hong Kong on Saturday. Trains will run from Hong Kong to Shenzhen (Futian) in 14mins! There will be direct trains from Hong Kong to various cities in China – and there are two major hubs on the new Hong Kong to Guangzhou line that you can connect to – Shenzhen North (in 23mins) and Guangzhou South (in about 45mins). You can then connect to trains taking you to hundreds of cities across China. It should be very interesting to observe how this service takes off!

A few pics of what we got to see last Saturday!

The architecture is pretty impressive – though the stations in China are on a grander scale it seems!

Next stop China!

The view back to Hong Kong island is pretty impressive from the various walkways to the station.

The screens that will show the train timetables.
